The visitor attraction we run in Cornwall is only the tip of the iceberg of Eden's work. Think of it as our HQ. Many of our staff are working on special campaigns and projects to help bring about positive change in the wider community.
Essentially, Eden's aim is to help find positive futures. That's why we built this place. We know that the 21st century will bring challenges such as rising energy costs, changing demographics, escalating extinctions, global economic shifts and climate change... We also know that, to get in shape for the challenges ahead, we need a culture that knows how to sustain the things that sustain us, and at the same time nurtures creativity, imagination and adaptability.
Check out some of the amazing things we are doing to make this happen, below...
The Big Lunch
The Big Lunch is an annual one-day get together with neighbours nationwide.
It's a day to break bread in a simple act of community and to put a smile back on Britain's face - a day to learn just how much we could achieve together if we set our minds to it.

Cape Farewell

Clear About Carbon
There is a significant lack of understanding of what a ‘low carbon economy’ means in reality, how it can be achieved and how small businesses and individual members of the workforce can usefully contribute towards reducing their carbon emissions. Clear About carbon is an exciting programme tailored specifically to help Cornish businesses grasp these issues and get ahead of the game.
Clear About Carbon
Climate Fund
The Eden Climate Fund invests in education initiatives that are vital if we are to tackle climate change. Developed by the Eden Project, these include proejcts that protect the rainforest and those that reduce carbon in the atmosphere.

Green Foundation
By taking local employees through a tailor-made programme at the Eden Project, our objective with Green Foundation is to help Cornish businesses make the most of opportunities presented by the transition to a low-carbon economy. With the government committed to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 80% over the next 40 years, there’s no doubt that the way we do business in the UK will be radically transformed. We want to help employees react positively to the challenge - and get ahead of the game.

Growing for Life
Growing for Life is based on the simple proposition that prisoners growing food inside prisons has a marked benefit on health, behaviour and outlook. We reinforced that idea by working with Cisco to provide learning in prisons (in horticulture, enterprise, life skills, and computing) and a network of social businesses outside the walls to offer extended learning opportunities and jobs.

Mud Between Your Toes
Children are spending less and less time outside. Not only are they missing out on a whole world of fun, adventure and really cool games (Hide and Seek anyone?) but there are some serious knock-on effects including health problems, poor social development and little understanding or interest in the environment - especially worrying in the face of climate change. That's why Eden runs Mud Between Your Toes - to reconnect children with the outside world.

New Landscapes, New Lives
We are all familiar with visions of environmental disaster, doom and gloom, but there are many extraordinary ordinary people all over the world working thanklessly to improve their surroundings for themselves, their families and communities. Indeed, there are few greater environmental contributions that we can make to the wellbeing of our planet and its people than repairing degraded land on a scale large enough to create new livelihoods and restore fresh running water, fertile soils, and clean air. Eden’s New Landscapes, New Lives initiative aims to promote and deliver good practice in landscape restoration building on our own skills and experiences and a global network of like-minded people.

Based at Eden’s own plant nursery, People and Gardens is a support service run by and for people whose lives have been affected by disabilities, ranging from severe autism to Down’s Syndrome. The POD - for greener schools
Our Climate Revolution programme is helping EDF Energy to shape The POD, a web-based schools programme designed to show schools and parents how they can minimise their impact on the environment and help promote a sustainable future.
Carrying a range of modules that are linked to core elements of the National Curriculum, The POD also gives schools the opportunity to make real and effective change themselves. Schools will be able to record their progress on The POD as well as keep track of the energy and water they've saved since joining the programme on their own 'Podmeter'.

Responsible Mining and the Post Mining Alliance
Since March 2002, Eden has been in partnership with mining industry leader Rio Tinto. We have been working together to improve the understanding of both the role the minerals industry plays, and what constitutes good practice and responsible mining. Through the partnership, we have successfully launched two initiatives to drive better performance by the mining industry: one on post-mining regeneration and the other on materials stewardship. The Eden Project is one remarkable example of post-mining regeneration. It is hoped Eden can be used as a platform from which to inspire broader action on mining regeneration.
