Training and professional development with the Eden Project

CPD at Eden

Eden's growing programme of CPD courses offers teachers the chance to enjoy our participatory and experiential approach to learning. Download the booking form to reserve your place.

All courses run 9.30am – 4pm, cost £116 + VAT and include an additional day's entry to Eden. Programmes are developed and delivered as appropriate by Eden's Education, Foundation and Green Teams.

Developing your school grounds for learning and play, Thursday March 25, 2010
Aim. Participants will develop the knowledge and confidence to initiate a process to develop their school grounds.

Who's it for? Teachers and school leaders interested in improving their schools' outdoor spaces to increase opportunities for play and learning. The focus will be on KS1 and 2 but there will be much of use for EYFS practitioners and secondary teachers.

Outcomes. Participants will:

  • Consider and reflect on what they want from their school grounds and the opportunities they present – not just PE and nature study…
  • Consider practicalities – briefing, design and designers, construction, maintenance, resources, finance.
  • Look at case studies and good practice from schools and on the ground at Eden.
  • Explore ways of involving the whole school community in developing their school grounds.

Learning Outdoors - Using and celebrating the outdoor primary classroom, Tuesday April 27, 2010
Aim. Explore how and why the outdoor classroom can be used to deliver and enhance learning for primary pupils.

Who's it for? Primary teachers keen to make the most of outdoor green spaces close to their school for learning and celebration.

Outcomes. Participants will:

  • Gather and try out ideas and activities for planning and delivering outdoor learning linked to the curriculum in school grounds and local outdoor spaces - including practicalities and risk awareness.
  • Explore creative outdoor celebrations.
  • Be aware of the national context and justification for Learning Outside the Classroom and the benefits of learning outdoors.
  • Develop knowledge of agencies and resources for school grounds development and outdoor learning.
  • Action plan to take forward outdoor learning with their class.

Your Sustainable School, Friday June 11, 2010
Aim. To use Eden as inspiration to explore what being a sustainable school means and gather practical ideas for learning for sustainability.

Who's it for? Primary and secondary teachers keen to integrate learning for sustainability into their teaching and throughout their school.

Outcomes. Participants will:

  • Develop their understanding of sustainability through investigating Eden's approach to sustainable operations.
  • Be aware of the national context, policies, agencies and resources available to support sustainable schools.
  • Look at 'learning for sustainability' approaches and activities across the curriculum.
  • Explore the link between campus and curriculum, including practical action for your school and community.

Winter Greens (Beat the Blues) - Making the most of your edible school garden all year round, Monday September 27, 2010
Aim. To develop knowledge and skills needed to make the most of learning opportunities presented by an edible school garden throughout the year.

Who's it for? EYFS, primary and secondary teachers, teaching assistants and school leaders interested in improving their gardening skills and knowledge so they can work with young people on school gardening projects all year round.

Outcomes. Participants will:

  • Consider opportunities presented by school food gardening for learning and celebrating across the curriculum and whole-school community involvement.
  • Be familiar with basic techniques for growing a variety of fruit and vegetables suitable for school grounds – with a focus on winter gardening and keeping your garden productive all year round.
  • Consider key points and practicalities in designing, planning and maintaining your garden ready for the next growing season.
  • Share ideas, inspiration and some of the new and innovative techniques tried and tested at Eden.
